Tuesday 6th September in the cafe…

It was a great day in the cafe today. We had 42 customers and intercepted loads of food.

Here’s what was ordered to eat in or take home for later:

  • 24 portions of spiced root vegetable soup
  • 25 portions of battered cod with potato wedges
  • 6 portions of humous salad
  • 6 portions of vegetable pasta with cheese
  • 12 portions of mixed fruit crumble
  • 10 portions of baked apple
  • 13 portions of banana sorbet

The intercepted food came from a local charity, who collect food from Costco, and from a foodbank. It included plenty of cereal, tins, over 16kg of strawberries and lots of bread buns. It’s always satisfying when we are able to divert food like this, to people who need it. One customer who came to the food boutique felt a bit embarrassed about taking the food that they needed. So I reminded them that the food should really be in a bin, and that they were helping to rescue it (from landfill) by taking it home!

£79.14 was given in monetary donations and various people helped out in the kitchen, and to clean up the cafe.

A big thank you to everyone who supported TRJFP @ All Hallows’ Cafe today! You helped us to #feed bellies not bins!

Don’t forget that we are now open:

  • Monday 10am till 4pm

Friday 26th August in the cafe…

It was a busy day in the kitchen today. Not only did we have the usual food preparation for lunch in the cafe, we also had the amazing Trjfp catering team preparing food for 2 different buffets (about 270 people). It is great to see the kitchen being used in this way to its maximum capacity.

Our food boutique is becoming more popular. People are enjoying the selection of fresh produce, as well as tins and dry foods.

The 40 customers who came to order food included some children. One of them  really enjoyed the chicken dish and a fruit salad – there was nothing left on her plate! She then came into the kitchen and helped with the washing up. If we help children to understand about waste food and PAYF at a young age, hopefully they will become ambassadors for it in the future.
