We had great fun in the cafe today – juicing apples and pears, making pizza dough, and chopping up lots of vegetables for the curry. Jess was helping us in the kitchen, as well as preparing food for an outside event. The wonderful volunteers worked hard as a team, to produce all of the tasty dishes.
Here’s what our 58 customers ordered to eat in the cafe or take home for later:
- 15 portions of courgette soup
- 31 portions of wholemeal chicken pizza
- 32 portions of mixed vegetable curry and dahl
- 21 portions of fruit crumble (peach or apple)
- 12 portions of bread and butter pudding
- 8 portions of fruit salad
£61.70 was given in monetary donations, many people helped in the kitchen, and others helped with the juicing. Lots of food was intercepted today, including more than 15kg of courgettes!
Leeds Urban Harvest collected a fair amount of fruit to press. In total they produced 50 litres of freshly squeezed apple juice and 10 litres of pear juice. It’s always brilliant to have this juice that we can hand out to customers on a PAYF basis. Thank you very much to Jenny and the team!
And of course, a big thank you to everyone else who supported the cafe today! You helped us #feed bellies not bins!
