It was a busy day in the kitchen today. Not only did we have the usual food preparation for lunch in the cafe, we also had the amazing Trjfp catering team preparing food for 2 different buffets (about 270 people). It is great to see the kitchen being used in this way to its maximum capacity.
Our food boutique is becoming more popular. People are enjoying the selection of fresh produce, as well as tins and dry foods.
The 40 customers who came to order food included some children. One of them really enjoyed the chicken dish and a fruit salad – there was nothing left on her plate! She then came into the kitchen and helped with the washing up. If we help children to understand about waste food and PAYF at a young age, hopefully they will become ambassadors for it in the future.
Here’s what was ordered to eat in or take away:
- 11 portions of mushroom soup
- 14 portions of Thai chicken with pasta
- 8 portions of vegetable curry and rice
- 16 portions of peppers stuffed with rice, cheese and vegetables
- 12 portions of apple pie
- 8 portions of pastry bake
- 10 portions of fruit salad
£112.36 was given in donations and lots of people helped out in the kitchen with the washing up and tidying away.
A huge thank you to everyone who supported the cafe today! You helped us #feed bellies not bins!
Don’t forget that we are now OPEN 4 DAYS a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – 10am till 4pm. That includes BANK HOLIDAY Monday 29th August!
Don’t forget to come and do your shopping in our FOOD BOUTIQUE. We had cut flowers from Marks and Spencers today, along with artisan bread, courgettes fresh from an allotment and breakfast granola…amongst many other items!
