Today was a very busy day in the kitchen, with very few helpers. However, some wonderful people saw the need and helped out in various ways. Thank you so much to you all!
As usual a tasty menu was cooked up. 32 customers came to the cafe to enjoy it, including a number of children. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, as 4 of them, all under the age of 11, came through to the kitchen keen to help out.
In the morning, volunteers from other TRJFP cafes in Leeds gathered for a meeting. It is fantastic to see how the project is growing and developing throughout the city. A bigger warehouse is about to be acquired to house the many tonnes of food that are now being intercepted. It will also facilitate other things, such as a public food boutique. We’ll keep you updated.
Here’s what was ordered to eat in or take away:
- 20 portions of broccoli and spring onion soup
- 21 portions of BBQ chicken and pork with salad and roasted new potatoes
- 4 portions of cabbage with crispy cheese crumb
- 13 portions of egg/ houmous/ cheese salad
- 1 egg sandwich
- 1 sausage roll and salad
- 1 omelette
- 13 portions of banana smoothie
- 10 portions of fruit salad
- 5 portions of mixed pastry bake and custard
£72.56 was given in monetary donations and a number of people helped out in the kitchen and garden. Lots of food was intercepted including 20kg of courgettes, food from food banks and from individuals.
A massive thank you to everyone who supported the cafe today! You helped us to #feed bellies not bins! 😊
Dont forget that we are now open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10am till 4pm. Plus, there is the Friday Bistro from 7.30pm – 9.30pm!
