Friday 18th December in the cafe…

It was a lovely day in the cafe today – lots of good food and lots of customers. As we didn’t have many volunteers first thing, Jo very kindly helped to prepare the wonderful parsnip soup – thank you! Other people then came along to help out and did an equally fabulous job!

Heston took some cake down to the ITV studios and Radio Aire, to wish them a happy Christmas. He also delivered some food to Rosebank Primary School. It was all very well recieved!

Here’s what was eaten in the cafe, or taken home for later:

  • 5 portions of roasted cauliflower soup
  • 24 portions of parsnip soup
  • 8 portions of chicken salad
  • 19 portions of toad in the hole
  • 20 portions of vegetable frittata
  • 5 portions of mixed cake bake
  • 9 portions of fruit salad
  • 20 portions of New York cheesecake
  • 20 portions of banana cake

Our 48 customers gave £202.15 in monetary donations. A few people helped out with writing up the menu, clearing up and washing up.

We recieved some amazing food donations today! One local shop gave us lots of tinned food and bread, various individuals gave items and a food bank delivered some fresh vegetables as well. Not to mention the local charity that had excess bread, croissants, salad etc, plus Cafe Rouge who donated lots of delicious cupcakes!

Tamsin from the LS6 Timebank joined us for part if the day. She was able to sign up some new volunteers and have some good conversations.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported us today!  We feel very privileged to serve the community through the cafe. One customer today gave us a Christmas card that read: “What you do in this cafe is better than Christmas.” Thank you for helping us to make this impact in people’s lives!

You also helped us to #feed bellies not bins!

We are open on Tuesday as usual – 10am till 4pm. We hope to see you then!
