A busy Tuesday

Today was not only busy with lots of customers, but also busy with lots of willing volunteers! At one point in the day, we had 10 volunteers all helping out at the same time. The extra help was wonderful and meant that large quantities of delicious food was prepared.

Here’s what our 40 customers ate in the cafe, or took home to eat later:
– 22 portions of French onion soup
– 24 portions of mushroom and cheese pasties
– 16 portions of Mediterranean chicken with brocoli and potato wedges
– 6 portions of apple charlotte
– 8 portions of spiced rice pudding
– 9 portions of mince pie ice cream

Tamsin was down at the cafe advertising the LS6 timebank. Plus, we had quite a few people chatting about our appearance on BBC Songs of Praise on Sunday!

Sadly we said goodbye to Andi today – one of our amazing volunteers. He has finished his studying here and now heads back to Switzerland. We hope that he will be able to spread the word about The Real Junk Food Project over there. In fact, we had someone taking photos of the cafe today to share with friends and family back in Poland. Who knows, we could soon see more TRJFP cafes opening up in other countries in Europe.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported us! We received £54.51 in monetary donations and many people lent a hand with clearing up and washing up. We also took donations of cumcumber, spices, flour, sugar, chocolate, tea bags and oxo cubes. Thank you!

Don’t forget that you can drop food into the cafe anytime when we are open. However, we only want the food that you would otherwise have thrown away – i.e. waste or surplus to requirements.

Have a good week!
